Faculty - Medical Physicist

The Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine invite applications for a 100% Medical Physicist in the Department of Radiology, to provide teaching, research and clinical service support to the Nuclear Medicine division. 

The successful candidate may be appointed on either the clinical or tenure track, open rank.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. from a Medical Physics program or will have comparable experience and training. 

The candidate should be board certified or be eligible for certification in Medical Nuclear Physics from the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine.

Effective communication skills to teach residents and graduate students and Mentor Masters and Ph.D. students is desired.

Research and clinical service support experience to the Nuclear Medicine division is highly desired

Teaching responsibilities will include didactic lectures for technologists, residents and graduate students as well as mentoring Masters and Ph.D. students.  Research responsibilities include (but are not limited to) providing internal dosimetry calculations for radionuclide therapy protocols, support for new theranostic research initiatives and independent funded research.  Clinical support services include managing the quality control of nuclear medicine instrumentation, interacting with the institution radiation safety officer, providing technical support for clinical procedures and the purchase of new instrumentation, and estimating the radiation dose to patients from clinical procedures

The Radiology Department includes thirty-seven staff physicians, fourteen fellows, fifteen Ph.D. researchers, and thirty-six residents. The Department operates five clinical MDCT scanners including two dual source state-of-the-art CT scanners capable of advanced hardware artifact reduction techniques, bone marrow edema imaging, and crystalline arthropathy diagnosis. There are six clinical MR scanners including a 3T.  Construction is underway for a PET/MR.  The University of Iowa is the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the state and has a large number of very active clinical programs and research programs in orthopedic oncology. The Department has a strong research record in imaging, and the Department is responsible for the multidisciplinary Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging.
