Visiting Instructor, Interactive Digital Communication

Full/Part Time Status:Full Time Service Schedule:Academic Year

Position Description:

The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Northern Iowa is seeking a one-year visiting instructor in Interactive Digital Studies (ids.uni.edu), starting August 2017 and ending May 2018. Candidates must have an interdisciplinary focus and be prepared to teach four courses each semester, both theory and hands-on design, and HTML/CSS skills in a range of foundation and advanced undergraduate courses in digital communication. Courses to be taught include: Interactive Digital Communication, Interactive Digital Visualization, Advanced Digital Visualization, Digital Culture and Communication, and the Interactive Digital Studies (IDS) Practicum. Interactive Digital Studies is an exciting interdisciplinary program with eight areas of emphasis and draws students from every College across the University. The Department of Communication Studies faculty is at the forefront of the theorization and production of a wide range of media, including digital archive timelines and multimedia graphic novels; our faculty also have a strong emphasis in visual rhetoric, cultural studies, and media studies.

Education Requirements:

M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Digital Media/New Media, Art and Technology, Digital Art, Graphic Design, Visual Communication,Communication Studies, Computer Science, or related field required. Consideration given to ABDs with evidence of degree completion by August 2017.

Required Qualifications:

Experience in web development, HTML and CSS, design theory, and digital culture required. Qualified applicants must demonstrate strong commitment to teaching, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the college/university level and experience in the web design industry.
