The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for University Advancement & President of the UNI Foundation. The University seeks an exceptional individual who will provide visionary leadership to the advancement division and oversee all aspects of development, the foundation and alumni relations. As a member of the President’s Executive Management Team (EMT) the Vice President provides significant contributions to the formulation, implementation, and administration of both the Development Master Plan and the University Strategic Plan.  This person will also serve as the President of the UNI Foundation, which is governed by a 28 member board of trustees.

UNI is one of three state universities in Iowa governed by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, and enjoys national recognition for its high educational standards. UNI possesses a distinctive mission, being THE comprehensive state university for Iowa. U.S. News and World Report ranked UNI in the top three among Midwest public universities for the past 17 years. UNI has been selected by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for its Community Engagement classification for curricula engagement and partnerships. The University’s attractive size, approximately 12,000 students, allows it to offer faculty, facilities, and academic choices of a much larger university, while retaining a friendly, small-college atmosphere on a park-like campus. UNI provides exceptional undergraduate education, as well as outstanding programs at the master’s, specialist, and doctoral levels. Located in Cedar Falls/Waterloo, the campus is comprised of more than 40 buildings on over 940 acres.

Reporting to the UNI President, the Vice President for University Advancement will serve as the chief development officer and President of the UNI Foundation.  The UNI Foundation has assets of $135 million and its endowment has just surpassed the $100M mark. The University completed a comprehensive capital campaign in December 2012, one year ahead of schedule, raising $158M on a goal of $150M.  The year 2026 marks the 150th anniversary of UNI and the desired goal is to celebrate this milestone with the culmination of another successful comprehensive capital campaign. The new Vice President will provide campaign leadership and will also provide leadership in evaluating the potential for expansion and/or restructuring of the advancement division to support all strategic plans of the institution.  The Vice President will also lead an alumni engagement effort that will provide services and programming to over 110,000 living alumni.

The successful candidate will be a strong, creative and respected leader with at least seven years of progressively responsible experience as an advancement professional, ten years or more preferred. A bachelor’s degree and the ability to travel extensively required, advanced degree preferred. Experience in development, campaign planning and execution, and demonstrated involvement of stakeholders (e.g. alumni, faculty, community, etc.) in the success of the institution is also required.
