Assistant/Associate Professor, Special Education
The University of Northern Iowa invites applications for an assistant or associate professor (rank dependent on qualifications) position in Early Childhood Special Education to begin August 13, 2018. We seek an individual capable of fulfilling the following roles: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood special education and special education; providing field-based supervision; establishing an active research agenda pertinent to early childhood special education; collaborating with local schools, agencies and service providers; supporting accreditation, advisement, student recruitment, curriculum planning, and program assessment; and providing service to the department, college, university, community and profession at large.
The Department of Special Education provides education, advocacy, and leadership at the local, state, and national level. We are located in a newly renovated building that includes a state-of-the-art learning technology classroom.

An earned doctorate in special education (preferred emphasis in early childhood special education) or a closely related field is required by time of appointment.
Additional requirements include: teaching experience in natural and/or inclusive early childhood settings (birth age 8); an established or emerging record of research and scholarship focused on early childhood special education; knowledge of early childhood special education professional standards and inclusive, developmentally appropriate practices, including the provision of accommodations and differentiated instruction; demonstrated competence in interdisciplinary and interagency collaboration, and qualified candidates for the Associate Professor rank must show evidence of excellent teaching in higher education settings.
Preference will be given to applicants with expertise or experience with one or more of the following: (1) three or more years teaching experience with young children with disabilities; (2) teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level in a variety of formats (e.g. face-to-face, online, blended); (3) expertise in one or more of the following: early intervention, curriculum design, linguistically and culturally diverse populations, assistive technology, augmentative and alternative communication, children with complex and/or high needs; (4) publication record in peer-reviewed journals and evidence of ability to secure external funding and; (5) experience with program coordination, including accreditation, advisement, recruitment, and program assessment.
