Director, TRIO Student Support Services Program
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Success, the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Director administers a federal TRIO grant program serving 250 low-income, first-generation students and/or students with disabilities annually with the goal of increasing persistence and graduation rates of these students. Services are delivered through intensive counseling, advising, programming, basic skills instruction, and community building.
The Director will plan and oversee all aspects of program intent of retention and graduation; supervise personnel to ensure the academic support is constant, intensive and intrusive; communicate program issues between US Department of Education, Iowa State University and community agencies; monitor budget expenditures and ensure compliance with regulatory Student Support Services (“SSS”) mandates; prepare, submit and respond to all reports required by the US Department of Education; implement and maintain oversight of all SSS components and SSS student retention; conduct and coordinate hiring, training, professional development, supervision and evaluation of program staff; communicate regularly with university administration; manage budget in compliance with Education Department General Administrative Regulations and submit fiscal reports; supervise identification/selection of students that meet SSS criteria as specified by The Higher Education Act; ensure program meets grant obligations in a timely manner; and promote the project nationally.
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable regarding academic support services, advising, and the development of individualized education plans; familiar with ADA; and committed to working with students and creating a positive campus climate for ALL students.
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 8 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in higher education, educational administration or a related field.
- Supervisory experience.
- Administrative experience.
- Experience managing programs for disadvantaged students.
- Familiarity with documentation and database proficient.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of disadvantaged and minority students.
- Experience in grant writing
- Experience with low income, first generation or disabled student populations.
