Director of Learning Communities

The Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for the Director of Learning Communities position. The Learning Communities (LC) program seeks to enhance our undergraduates' experience by providing shared curricular and co-curricular experiences in which students, faculty and staff can collaborate and learn from one another. The Director of the Learning Communities program is responsible for providing university-wide leadership and administration for all learning community initiatives. The Director is also responsible for managing the learning communities strategic planning and priorities, program budget, staffing, assessment, marketing and promotion, and policies and processes. The Director is the primary contact for Learning Communities regarding academic services, programs, and partnerships with all colleges, departments, and student affairs and academic affairs staff.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and a strong understanding of cultural differences and learning communities, and of the academic community, culture, politics, and academic services. This person will also have strong leadership, management, relationship-building and negotiation skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; as well as marketing and public relations, fiscal management, and group facilitation skills.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. or other professional degree and related experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, or another related area. Experience working collaboratively with team members or departments to deliver programs and services. Direct experience in leading a comprehensive learning community program at a large university. Strong skills and experience in group facilitation. Experience in program development, promotion/marketing, implementation, and assessment. Training and/or curriculum development experience or classroom teaching experience.
