Assistant Professor

Children’s Physical Activity, Fitness, & School Health Promotion

Faculty Position

 

DESCRIPTION: The University of Georgia seeks to fill a full‐time, tenure‐track position at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of children’s physical activity, fitness, and school health promotion. We are pursuing the highest quality scholar and teacher educator with research and teaching expertise in children’s physical activity, fitness, and school health promotion. This is an academic-year appointment that begins in August, 2015.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: (a) Doctorate in Kinesiology or closely related field (e.g., Sport Pedagogy, Teacher Education, or School Health), and (b) Evidence of successful research, teaching, and potential for securing external funding.  Other desired but not essential qualifications are at least one year of: (a) Public school teaching experience, and (b) Experience with edTPA.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of physical education, with a specific expertise in children’s physical activity for health and well-being. Establish a focused line of research in children’s physical activity for health and well-being involving undergraduate and graduate students. Seek external funding for research projects and educational programs. Advise graduate students, and direct master’s and doctoral students’ thesis and dissertation research. Participate in the development of the health and physical education teacher education programs and serve on department, college, and university committees.
