Job Description
The News Reporter/Host serves as reporter, writer, and producer of original audio news stories, feature reports, and multi-platform treatments during WGCU -FM broadcast programming.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Two years of public radio broadcast news experience.
Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Experience reporting, creating original content and hosting on-air for public radio news and public affairs programs both in the field and in studio.
Current multi-platform journalism and social media skills.

•Knowledge and respect for professional journalism standards including diligence, accuracy and the ability to adhere to them.
•Skilled in the use of journalism principles and techniques.
•Network quality news writing, reporting, digital recording, and production skills.
•Ability to work compatibly and collaboratively within a work group and an organization.
•Ability to produce short two-ways, long-form interviews, sound-rich radio stories and investigative reports while meeting deadlines.
•Ability to be comfortable using microphones, portable recording devices and audio, video and radio studio production equipment.
•Proficient with current digital audio editing, video desktop editing, and general desktop software applications including those that create original data journalism stories.
•Superior on-air voice quality and network quality hosting.

Salary Range
$43,000 - $47,000

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
•Serves as reporter, writer and producer of original on-air and on-line news stories and feature reports.
•Produces multi-platform treatments from stories. Creates written versions of stories, photos, slideshows, data maps, graphs and videos for wgcunews.org and occasional video stories for WGCU -TV.
•Conducts interviews, records audio, reports, and writes news stories in accordance with journalistic standards and ethics.
•Collaborates and contributes to story concepts, research, background materials and shares newsmaker contacts with colleagues.
•Substitutes as on-air program host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered as needed.
•Serves as back-up to on-air host and/or co-producer of Gulf Coast Live segments.
•Contributes to WGCU -TV local programs with stories, hosting or other services as needed.
•Participates in on-air fundraising campaigns and WGCU Public Media special events.
•Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus by providing original news reports and anchoring on-air shifts during weather-related events or other emergencies.

Other Job Duties

Other Duties
•Assists with training of part-time on-air employees and interns.
•Performs other duties related to news, public affairs, and station operations as required.
