Job Description
The News Editor serves as one of four section editors for Eagle News. This position oversees the layout and production of content for the news section, the most consequential section of the newspaper. The News Editor keeps the campus community up-to-date on the latest news with digital-first coverage of big events and breaking news, as well as thought-provoking news features and special reports.

Required Qualifications
Enrolled as a degree seeking student at Florida Gulf Coast University at the time of hire and throughout the appointment.
Must have a minimum GPA 3.0 and be in good conduct standing with the University.
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends including production nights.
Some experience with multimedia reporting.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word).

Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Adobe InDesign or similar software programs.
Experience writing features for publication and covering breaking news.

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
• Recruits and supervises news section writers for Eagle News.
• Attends every staff meeting and print production night.
• Enforces and meets all weekly and daily deadlines.
• Communicates newsroom policies, procedures and ethics to staff and contributing writers.
• Assigns news coverage and maintains an up-to-date story budget.
• Creates layout of news section for the paper each week.
• Ensures breaking news and time-sensitive events are covered and posted to the website.
• Writes and covers stories and events for sections as needed.

Other Duties
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
