Eagle Media Photo Editor (OPS) - Student Media

Job Description
The Eagle Media Photo Editor manages and executes the photo assignment needs of all three Eagle Media operations - Eagle News, ENTV and Eagle Radio. This position communicates with the Executive Editor, Digital Editor, ENTV Director and Eagle Radio Station Manager on what photography is needed and assigns photographers to cover events. The Photo Editor shoots and edits photos for the paper and web as needed, and they may also assist the Marketing & Sales Manager with promotional shoots as well. This position also serves as the primary student custodian of the Eagle News AVJ equipment and assists the adviser in maintaining equipment inventory.

Required Qualifications
Enrolled as a degree seeking student at Florida Gulf Coast University at the time of hire and throughout the appointment.
Must have a minimum GPA 2.5 and be in good conduct standing with the University.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word).
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends including production nights.
Some experience with multimedia reporting.
Previous experience with photography.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere or similar software programs.
Experience taking photos at sporting events and covering news events.
Experience Instagram in a professional capacity.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator or similar software programs.
• Working knowledge of Canon DSLR operation.
• Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
• Knowledge of Society of Professional Journalists ( SPJ ) Code of Ethics.
• Skill in English grammar, AP style and journalistic writing.
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel around campus and off campus to cover news.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
• Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
• Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
• Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.
• Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures consistently.

$2,000 - $2,100 stipend

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
• Recruits and supervises photographers for Eagle Media.
• Attends every staff meeting and print production night.
• Enforces and meets all weekly and daily deadlines.
• Communicates newsroom policies, procedures and ethics to photo staff.
• Coordinates photo assignments and ensures they are completed.
• Reviews newspaper and website for quality assurance of images.
• Upholds copyright laws and licensing policies.
• Ensures photographers are present to capture images for breaking news, big events and special features.
• Takes and provides photos as needed.
• Assists in tracking AVJ equipment and maintaining inventory.

Other Duties
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
