CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The University of Delaware, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD) is pleased to announce a full-time Sports Psychology position. The position will be classified as an employee of CCSD to be embedded in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, where 90-95% of their responsibilities will be performed. The Sports Psychology is responsible for providing counseling and sport psychology services within Intercollegiate Athletics in a collaborative effort to enhance the personal, social, emotional, academic, and athletic success of the University of Delaware varsity student-athletes. The Sport Psychologist will attend CCSD staff meetings and participate in other CCSD professional development activities, and CCSD staff life as time permits.

As a member of the University of Delaware Sports Performance Team, the Sports Psychologist at the University of Delaware is a valued member of our multidisciplinary Sports Performance healthcare team, upholding and embracing the departmental mission of "Inspiring Greatness Together." We are looking for a dynamic individual who will work under the guidance of our Center for Counseling and Student Development and the Senior Associate AD for Health, Well-being, and Sports Performance.

The position will support the athletics department's vision of providing an excellent student-athlete experience surrounding all aspects of sports performance and foster a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness throughout the program.

The Sports Psychologist provides counseling, sport, and performance psychology services to the 600+ varsity student-athletes. Consistent with the UD Sports Performance model, the Sport Psychologist will regularly consult with certified athletic trainers, team physicians, sports dieticians, strength and conditioning coaches, and other support staff for an all-inclusive support team approach. This position reports to the Director of Counseling and Student Development and the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Health, Well-being and Sports Performance.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Responsibilities 80%

Individual, and team sport psychology strategies related to sport or position specific skills needed for optimal performance, and mental health crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach, on clinical issues most aligned to student-athletes (e.g. transition to the university, injury, disordered eating, athletic identity, career planning and transition, interpersonal relationships, cultural identity, and substance abuse); professional consultation to UD coaches, staff, sports medicine colleagues, and student-athletes regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges in order to enhance the campus climate for student success; performance enhancement counseling and education with individuals and teams; develop and provide

Educational programming duties 15%

Mental health issues and wellness topics

Alcohol and substance abuse education and assessment

Treatment, follow-up, and/or referral to university or community resources.

Lead educational sessions for coaches, staff, and student-athletes related to best practices and industry leading programming.

Center for Counseling responsibilities 5%

Attend Counseling department meetings

Attend professional development workshops within Counseling Center

Maintenance of written records within Titanium

Maintenance of industry certifications/continuing education requirements

Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University of Delaware, the NCAA, the CAA Conference, the State of Delaware and any other governing body is paramount.

REQUIREMENTS:

Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical/Counseling/Educational Psychology. Currently certified as a Sports Psychologist. Current state licensure or eligible for state license upon hire. Specialized training in sport psychology or AASP certification. Excellent personal qualities and skills (e.g. oral and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical) that enable effective interaction with athletic staff, sport medicine staff, colleagues, administrators, faculty and student-athletes. Strong commitment to, and training, in working with culturally diverse individuals. Self-motivated and disciplined, flexible and able to respond well to change and to intervene in mental health crises. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary treatment team and to case manage referrals to campus and community partners. Experience in collegiate athletics setting as Sports Psychologist or equivalent. Currently embedded within an athletics department or similar model through counseling center. Knowledge of NCAA, CAA, and industry rules and regulations. Continual upholding of industry standard certifications, CEU's, etc. Experience working with Division I collegiate (and/or elite) athletes.

Flexible work schedule required. Position may require early mornings, evening, and weekend hours

DESIRED:

Personal experience as a student-athlete. Consultation experience within a University Athletics Department. APA-accredited doctoral training program and internship. APPP Certified. Training and experience in LD/ADHD evaluation and assessment. Training and experience in alcohol and substance abuse assessment and treatment. Experience with clinical mental health programming for student-athletes and coaches. Current full time experience as Director of Sports Psychology.

Experience working in a multidisciplinary healthcare team. APPP Certification. Experience with Titanium Software System
