CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Psychosocial Oncology Intervention Lab (PI: Maureen, PhD) invites applications for a full time recruiter position. The recruiter will meet with and enroll families in a NCI funded 5-year randomized control trial (Families Fighting Cancer Together) to help African American families who are coping with parental cancer. The project aims to help adolescents (ages 12-18) cope with parental cancer.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Get credentialed, HIPAA training for Helen Graham Cancer Center at Christiana to access list of possible patients and to meet with patients onsite at oncology clinic
• Attend team meetings and complete all required IRB and University trainings
• Actively recruit potential participants (African American parents and adolescents)
• Enroll participants (either at their homes or at Star Campus) and obtain informed parental consent and adolescent assent
• Collect all baseline research data using REDCAP and ensure accuracy of documentation as well as maintain recruitment databases.
• Each week meet with all recruitment sites to check in about possible participants
• Regularly attend community events to do outreach and actively recruit participants
• Distribute advertisements and use media to engage the community (e.g., face book page)
• Distribute recruitment flyers and brochures in waiting rooms and all recruitment sites
• Send out recruitment letters to possible participants
• Meet with participants as needed to do warm hand off from providers to actively engage/recruit participants
• Do phone screening of all eligible participants
• After phone screening determines eligibility, set up first meeting with all eligible families either at their homes, the Helen Graham Cancer Center, or at Star Campus to consent families and to conduct all baseline assessments within 2 weeks of phone screening so families can be randomized to 1 of 2 treatments
• Track all contacted, eligible, and enrolled families in secure data base according to Consort 2010 guidelines
• Throughout the study regularly contact all enrolled families via phone, letter to keep them engaged (families will be tracked over 12 months)
• Help program coordinator schedule support group sessions
• Help program coordinator set up support group sessions at Star campus and HIPAA compliant videotaping
• Pick up families with University Van as needed to remove transportation barriers

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will hold a bachelors or masters degree in family therapy or medical family therapy, or a related degree in the social and behavioral or health sciences. The applicant will also demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and organization skills, and have a strong interest in culturally sensitive family-oriented approaches to medical care, intervention science, and research methodology. The applicant should have experience working with the cancer community and good interpersonal and organizational skills.
