Program Coordinator Victim Advocacy

PAY GRADE: 29E

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Student Wellness & Health Promotion (SWHP) is a comprehensive health promotion program within the Division of Student Life at the University of Delaware.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Victim Advocacy, the Program Coordinator, Victim Advocacy (PCVA) provides in-person, confidential crisis counseling and victim advocacy for victims of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking. The PCVA also provides hotline coverage as part of the Sexual Offense Support (S.O.S.) Service hotline, tier 2 on-call system. PCVA helps students to navigate the University's OEI/Title XI sexual misconduct complainant process; prepares victims for and accompanies them to meetings and interviews, explains charges, sanctions, and complicated legal considerations. Additionally, PCVA assists victims seeking campus interim measures, such as academic accommodations, housing changes, ban from contact; provides information and support to victims seeking community remedies, such as civil Protection From Abuse Order and victim's compensation through local and state court systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Initiates and directs confidential student advocacy and case management following incidents of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and/or sexual harassment.
  • Provides crisis intervention to de-escalate difficult situations, and coordinates appropriate response and care to ensure a safer environment
  • Provides supportive counseling to facilitate trauma recovery and victim healing.
  • Provides psycho-educational, support group services for survivors of trauma.
  • Consults and coordinates referrals to on- and off-campus resources for health and healing; maintains HIPPA and FERPA confidentiality standards.
  • Coordinates and provides individual and ongoing consultation appointments for friends, faculty, parents, and others seeking assistance and guidance on how to engage in trauma support for victims of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and harassment.
  • Coordinates and conducts individual appointments to students seeking assistance for sexuality concerns such as STDs, safer sex, communication skills, healthy relationships, pregnancy prevention, or sexual orientation.
  • Develops and conducts evaluations and assessments to gauge client satisfaction and success in accomplishing both personal and/or group-based wellness goals.
  • Assists with the development and provision of sexual violence response and trauma-informed care trainings for various campus entities, including faculty and students.
  • Assists with the development of training materials for UD students, professional staff and faculty for the content areas of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, sexual harassment, bystander intervention, and sexuality and co-facilitates training implementation for initiatives such as the following:
  • As a member of SWHP's Sexual Misconduct Prevention Team, assists with the conceptualization of over-arching sexual misconduct prevention and health promotion policy, protocol and strategies.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate degree in a discipline related to counseling, advocacy, gender/women's studies, health promotion, prevention, or higher education preferred.
  • Professional Victim Advocate certification, counseling certification, counseling licensure, progress toward acquiring advocacy certification, or willingness to work toward advocacy certification within the first year of employment is required.
  • Experience in trauma recovery/counseling, victim service provision/advocacy, sexual misconduct prevention, or crisis intervention, or specialized training in trauma, crisis intervention, or in providing services to emerging-adult victims of intimate partner violence and/or sexual assault is preferred.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality consistent with applicable federal and state laws and regulations and to act with discretion, sensitivity, and neutrality.
  • Working knowledge of ethical guidelines and ability to practice according to national ethical standards.
  • Knowledge of intra-cultural, diversity and LGBTQ+ issues.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Intermittent, late-night weekday, as well as limited weekend day and/or evening work required.

After hours on call required.
