CONTEXT OF THE JOB:



The Horn Program in Entrepreneurship ignites imaginations and empowers world changers through educational offerings that emphasize experiential learning, evidence-based entrepreneurship and active engagement with entrepreneurs and other members of the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem. Through participation in Horn Program offerings, students gain the knowledge, skills, personal capacities, experiences, connections and access to resources needed to successfully manifest innovation and thrive in the rapidly changing world.

The program coordinator, working under limited direction from the manager, youth programs and Horn director, provides operational support and input into strategic decision making for the Delaware Innovation Fellows program ( www.udel.edu/DIF ) and the Paul and Linda McConnell Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative, especially its cornerstone component - the Diamond Challenge for High School Entrepreneurs ( www.diamondchallenge.org ). The program coordinator, which is a new position, plays a critical role in supporting rapid growth and expanding the positive impact of these unique offerings.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:



For the Delaware Innovation Fellows Program

  • Collaborate with the Horn director to set strategic goals, measurable objectives, and budgets; monitor and report on progress toward goal accomplishment.

  • Collaborate with Horn Program personnel and the University's Office of Admissions to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for recruiting students into the program.

  • Plan and execute enrichment activities and events for student innovation fellows.

  • Lead a team of student community champions who are charged with developing a sense of identity and community among program participants.

  • Utilize Salesforce to maintain records related to program participation and engagement.

  • Play a lead role in communicating with student innovation fellows as well as the many entrepreneurial, business and community leaders who engage with students through the program.

  • Help to identify and pursue opportunities to increase resources available to support the program.


For the Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative

  • Collaborate with the manager, youth programs to set strategic goals, measurable objectives, and relevant budgets; monitor and report on progress toward goal accomplishment.

  • Participate in setting policies/procedures for the Diamond Challenge and other youth programs

  • Collaborate with Horn Program personnel and other stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing & communication strategy to establish/maintain key relationships and increase program participation.

  • Plan and execute key aspects of the Diamond Challenge for High School Entrepreneurs, including the team registration process; mentor recruitment, onboarding and communications; website updates and blog.

  • Lead all aspects of the Diamond Challenge student ambassadors program, including ambassador recruitment, onboarding and communications.

  • Provide planning and operational support for the annual Youth Entrepreneurship Summit, which includes the semi-final and final rounds of the Diamond Challenge.



General Responsibilities

  • Represent the Horn Program, Delaware Innovation Fellows and the Diamond Challenge at local, regional, national, and international events, meetings, and conferences, as necessary, to progress toward the accomplishment of strategic goals.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, entrepreneurship, business, education or a related field and one to three years of relevant experience (through internships or fulltime employment).

  • Experience in program management, project management, marketing and entrepreneurship strongly preferred.

  • Ability to use customer relationship management software (Salesforce), content management systems (for web editing), spreadsheets and presentation software.

  • Highly desirable knowledge and skills include: strategic planning, analytical thinking, relationship management, website management, event planning, volunteer management and networking.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for collaboration with internal and external constituents in an effort to further the mission of the Horn Program.

  • Ability to communicate and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and re-prioritize; ability to successfully adapt to rapid change.

  • Special requirements: Ability to work a flexible schedule, as the responsibilities of the position will require participation in some evening and weekend activities as well as domestic and international travel.
