Note: Appointment is for 1 year with the possibility of a 1 year renewal. Context of the Job and Major Responsibilities:
The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Delaware is a thriving academic unit recently ranked #1 in the nation by US News & World Report . The Department includes 26 faculty and professionals including 15 PhD faculty with independent research lines, approximately 60 professional students per class pursuing a DPT, 30 graduate students pursuing a PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science (BIOMS), post-professional residencies, and a 10,000 square foot physical therapy clinic that is open to the public. The Department is part of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), an innovative, interdisciplinary college of more than 3,000 students and 100 faculty. CHS was recently ranked #2 nationally among the best places to study health professions by College Faculty. The state-of-the-art Health Sciences Complex opened in January 2014 on the University's new Science Technology & Advanced Research (STAR) Campus. The complex brings students, researchers, clinicians, and the community together to address some of the most pressing healthcare questions of our time. The STAR Campus fosters connections to the community, inter-professional training of students, and collaborative research between faculty and clinicians.
Under the direction of Dr. Megan Sions, PhD, DPT, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy with a secondary BIOMS faculty appointment, the Postdoctoral Researcher will collaborate with students, residents, prosthetists, physical therapists, physicians, biomechanists, industry partners, and professional staff to engage in research that advances post-amputation clinical care and improves outcomes for individuals with limb loss .
- Participate in the University of Delaware Multidisciplinary Amputee Clinics
- Collaborate with regional prosthetic offices to conduct clinical research
- Present nationally at scientific and educational conferences
- Develop and expand expertise in prosthetology and clinical outcome measures
- Submit 2-3 manuscripts to peer-reviewed scientific journals annually
- Participate in grant submissions
- Assist with daily laboratory functions for ongoing projects
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (i.e. PhD, ScD) required
- Master's degree in prosthetics and orthotics preferred
- Certification as a prosthetist by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics preferred
- Demonstrated capacity to conduct and disseminate research as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and scholarly presentations
- Strong background in statistics
- Experience in evaluating and treating individuals with limb loss
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Ability to interact sensitively with persons with disabilities and diverse backgrounds
