Post-Doctoral Research in Fluvial Stratigraphy

DEADLINE: 5/1/17

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general direction of Principle Investigator Dr. James Pizzuto, the post-doctoral scholar will help develop data, models, and methods to quantify how fluvial suspended sediment routing and storage filters erosional signals delivered to depositional basins. Field studies will focus on Holocene fluvial processes along Powder River in southeastern Montana. Duties include 1) field mapping and dating of river deposits, 2) developing models specifying the spatial distribution and ages of fluvial sediments at key times in the Holocene history of the river, and 3) exploring new ways to use the results from field and modeling studies to better understand ancient fluvial sedimentary basins.

QUALIFICATIONS: Conferred PhD degree in Geology or related discipline. Experience field sampling, mapping, dating, and interpreting modern and ancient fluvial deposits. Basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems. Knowledge of standard laboratory methods fluvial sedimentology. Experience with isotopic dating and computer programming desirable.
