CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Under the general direction of the Digital Content Manager, the Multimedia Specialist develops and implements a comprehensive digital outreach plan in support of the missions of the University of Delaware's Office of Communications and Marketing. The Specialist is responsible for the creation of multimedia products, videos, photo galleries, web pages, social media and other methods to further the University's strategies to engage with current and prospective students, alumni and the greater University community around the globe. The Specialist manages the multimedia driven social media platforms-including but not limited to YouTube and Instagram-and serves as the backup for the University's other social media platforms, specifically Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The Specialist works with faculty, staff, and interns to develop creative and innovative digital approaches, assess project priorities and assist with project management. The Specialist creates, updates, and maintains select social media platforms-and potentially several websites and/or pages, and monitors data capture and input. The Specialist works with the Manager and Director for Digital Communication to integrate digital strategy into communications and outreach efforts.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Capture homepage video content with a storytelling focus. This includes but is not limited to interviewing compelling sources in the field, integrating text and graphic overlays for standalone videos as well as delivering ambient scene-setting videos specifically for the homepage.
  • Manage the University's presence on multimedia-based social media platforms, specifically YouTube and Instagram, by creating unique and engaging posts, videos and photo galleries, curating hashtags and user-generated content and developing campaigns.
  • Develop, coordinate, and/or implement the overall concepts and content of electronic outreach efforts. Products include web versions of printed materials, multimedia integrated exhibits, multimedia productions, social media sites, e-newsletters, and websites. Solicit faculty and administrative input. Write and edit text in editorial style appropriate to intended audience. Work closely and collaboratively with graphic designer, writer, and production coordinator to integrate graphics and textual elements, set production schedule, meet deadlines, and review proofs. Conduct and interpret periodic audience surveys.
  • Research, design, and support comprehensive online multimedia, websites, and interactive displays, to include feature writing, interviewing faculty and staff, and capturing/editing still images and digital video and audio clips. Verify compliance with University standards and practices.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology staff on the development and maintenance of social media websites as well as social media integration into UD websites.
  • Establish short- and long- range objectives and develop strategic and technical plans for implementing social media campaigns. Track and report on social media and, as applicable, website metrics. Work with IT staff and web developers to troubleshoot issues.
  • In conjunction with the Digital Content Manager and Director for Digital Communication, research, evaluate and implement social media presence for the University on new platforms. Think strategically and apply market techniques to increase visibility, boost traffic, engage with constituents and measure impact of efforts. With the guidance of the Digital Content Manager, educate colleagues on the Digital Team to apply newest social media trends.
  • Ensure that all digital outreach efforts and products meet University standards for quality and audience comprehension.
  • Collaborate with units across campus to identify digital outreach opportunities.
  • Produce multimedia displays and audiovisuals for University use. Write/edit text or script; procure visuals, music, narrators; obtain necessary copyright permissions; coordinate production; produce videos; set up and market final product.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements in the videography, photography, outreach, multimedia, social media, and web development arenas.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Content Manager and Director for Digital Communication to develop competitive proposals and assist in securing independent project funding; prepare budgets and applicable internal and external reports.
  • Supervise interns and Social Media Ambassadors as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism, communications, journalism, English, interactive media or other job-related discipline and three to five years of experience in video production, social media creation and curation as well as photography.
  • Experience in developing and deploying digital content via social media that spurs discussion and engagement with various online communities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of and experience with online communication.
  • Ability to anticipate audience needs in regard to planning and organizing cutting-edge, continually evolving digital strategy and communications best practices.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative environment.
  • Experience with video storyboarding, shooting, editing and posting to social media and webpages. Additional skills in shooting and editing photography that can be shared online.
  • Knowledge of trends in social media, multimedia and digital publishing techniques.
  • Ability to assess situations rapidly in a fast-paced environment, develop creative and cost-effective ways to solve problems, and establish cooperative working relationships with other campus units as well as external vendors.
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at a given time and to establish and meet deadlines in a productive manner.
  • Knowledge of proofreading and appropriate style guides.
  • Working experience with Mac computer systems and proficiency in MS Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Proficient in Final Cut, iMovie, , photo editing software, such as Photoshop, and management of social media platforms-specifically Instagram, and YouTube in addition to Facebook and Twitter.
  • Preferred knowledge of web content-management systems (Adobe, Dreamweaver, Drupal, WordPress, etc.) and web editing tools.
