The Language Acquisition & Brain Lab at the University of Delaware (QLAB), directed by Dr. Zhenghan Qi, seeks a highly capable and motivated individual to serve as a full time, temporary Limited Term Researcher (LTR). LTR's are appointed for a one-year term, with reappointment possible based on availability of funding for two additional years. This person will serve as a research assistant and laboratory manager to assist with all phases of neuroimaging and behavioral studies in the development of language acquisition. The QLAB utilizes cutting-edge technology (eye-tracking, EEG and fMRI) to probe the cognitive and neural development of language learning in both healthy population, as well as children with developmental disorders (e.g. autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia, and language impairment).

Job Description:

The candidate will be responsible for design and implementation of experiments; participant outreach and recruitment; conducting behavioral and neuroimaging experiments; implementation and maintenance of new analysis software; and performing basic administrative duties including maintaining compliance with the University IRB, managing participant recruitment, and purchasing materials.

The candidate will work directly with the PI and will have the opportunity to participate in reading groups and research seminars; attend conferences; collaborate on publications, and supervise undergraduate researchers. Depending on individual candidate's interests and skills, the candidate may also participate in a number of ongoing collaborative projects with faculty in other universities including MIT, Harvard Medical School, Boston University and the University of Sydney.

This position is ideally suited for individuals who are interested in pursuing a doctorate degree in the fields of medicine, communication sciences and disorders, cognitive neuroscience, psychology and education.

Job Requirements:

Minimum of Master's degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, biology, physics, math, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. An individual with only a Bachelor's degree could be considered eligible if he/she possessed the skill and experience needed by the PI. Prior research experience in developmental psychology labs or neuroimaging labs is desired. Proficiency in programming languages (e.g. MATLAB, Python or BASH shell scripting) is strongly preferred. The candidate must be self-motivated, mature and able to interact with children and families.
