DE Health Science Alliance Executive Director

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Executive Director is the key management leader of the Delaware Health Sciences Alliance (DHSA). The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the Alliance. Other key duties include: integrating activities across the members of the alliance, facilitating collaborations in research and education and enhancing translation of research into evidence based practice. The position reports directly to the Chairman of the External Board and /or his or her Designee. The External Board consist of the presidents and designees of the partnering institutions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Work with the Presidents and Designees (External Board members)

 

 

 

  • Responsible for leading the Alliance in a manner that supports and guides the organization's mission and is responsible for reporting plans, activities, and accomplishments to the External Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the External Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the External Board to evaluate plans. Also work directly with the External Board so that joint decisions for the DHSA can be made that map onto the priorities of the founding institutions.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the DHSA, and conduct official correspondence on behalf of the DHSA.
  • Represent the DHSA at community activities to enhance the organization's community profile and impact.

 


2) Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with Internal Board (made up a 3 representatives from each of the founding institutions) and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

 

 

 

  • Together with the Internal Board the Executive Director is responsible for implementation of DHSA programs and initiatives that carry out the organization's mission. The Executive Director chairs the Internal Board meetings and in collaborations with the internal board design and build the infrastructure of the DHSA.
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that the alliance can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of the Alliance's image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.


3) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Alliance, to include submission to the External Board of a proposed annual budget financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

 

 

  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.


4) Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

 

 

  • Responsible effective administration of Alliance operations.
  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other documents made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.

 


QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field, Master's Degree preferred. Five or more year's senior management experience.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization; Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups.
  • Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques; Strong public speaking ability; Ability to convey a vision of DHSA's strategic future to staff, board, partners, volunteers and donors.
  • Creativity/Innovation: Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.
  • Think Strategically: Assesses options and actions based on trends and conditions in the environment, and the vision and values of the organization.
