Clinical Coordinator - School of Nursing

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

In consultation with the SON faculty, the Clinical Coordinator manages the clinical components of the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The Clinical Coordinator will utilize knowledge of the Delaware Healthcare community to identify clinical sites needed to provide appropriate experiences to meet the clinical objectives of nursing courses. The Clinical Coordinator will secure the clinical sites, assure affiliation agreements are in place for clinical placement, assure that clinical faculty and students are in compliance with all clinical requirements for their respective clinical placements, and assure that the undergraduate clinical courses are staffed with the needed number of qualified adjunct clinical instructors. The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for supervision of clinical coordination support staff, reviewing and reporting confidential student background information to the Director or Assistant Director, conducting and reporting clinical staff evaluations by clinical agencies, chairing the School of Nursing Safety Committee, developing School of Nursing clinical policies, and overseeing and communicating clinical information to nursing students and faculty.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Forecast, secure and assign students to preceptor, clinical rotation, and field experience clinical placements in collaboration with the SON faculty.
  • Engage with outside agencies to build and maintain relationships for placement of nursing students in the clinical setting and attend meetings as required. Assure clinical placement documentation sent to placement agencies as required or requested.
  • Supervise the Clinical Coordination support staff; direct daily processes, evaluate performances and work load, and provide training resources; Assist and oversee coordination and registration of student nurse externship programs. Oversee the completion and monitoring of the nursing students clinical mandatory requirements as indicated by the School of Nursing and clinical agencies for clinical placement.
  • Utilize knowledge of Delaware Healthcare community to identify clinical sites needed to provide appropriate experiences to meet the clinical objectives of the nursing courses.
  • Identify, screen, and assist with the hiring of potential adjunct clinical faculty as needed for staffing all undergraduate clinical courses.
  • Initiate and complete (while working with University of Delaware Risk Management department as needed) new affiliation agreements with clinical agencies as needed for clinical placement of nursing students. Oversee the maintenance of existing affiliation agreements with clinical agencies as needed for clinical placement of nursing students.
  • Conduct and oversee ongoing meetings and communication with students and faculty, including adjunct faculty, of announcements, clinical information, and registration of upcoming semester for the undergraduate students.
  • Manage student clinical placement issues as appropriate, which include reporting of confidential student clinical issues as indicated.
  • Develop School of Nursing policy related to clinical education in conjunction with the SON faculty.
  • Conduct and report clinical faculty evaluations by clinical agencies to the Director following each semester/session.
  • Assure faculty complete clinical mandatory requirements as indicated by the School of Nursing and clinical agencies for clinical instruction.
  • Prepare clinical reports as needed for the School of Nursing requirements and accreditation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered nurse with BSN, masters preferred, with 5 years nursing experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of Delaware healthcare agencies.
  • Strong knowledge of curricula and the ability to translate the objectives to the clinical experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills; flexibility
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.
