Assistant / Associate Professor of Research, Center for Health Assessment Resea

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Health Assessment Research and Translation (CHART), the Research Faculty is an integral part of the Center, which conducts state-of-the-art research on health assessment and outcomes. With growing annual research expenditures in excess of $1.5 million, CHART currently leads and/or participates in several large, multi-center, interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from the NIH, NIDILRR, DoD, and private foundations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participation in Project Management/Grant Coordination Activities: Implement and manage research projects coordinating several aspects of the research methodology according to project timelines, within budget, and adhering to high quality standards. CHART's current grant portfolio consists of several multi-site studies designed to develop new measurement instruments and improve the quality of life of individuals, including those with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and major extremity trauma/amputation. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with colleagues and research personnel both within University of Delaware and at collaborative sites to successfully achieve project goals.
  • Participation in Dissemination Activities: Facilitate and prepare key sections for multiple manuscripts for publication as secondary author as well as prepare/submit a minimum of 2 manuscripts related to the Center's research each year as first author.
  • Participate in writing and submission of grant applications: Submit grant(s) as both a Co-Investigator and as a PI. The successful candidate will play a critical role:
    • Coordinating and directing many of the writing activities required to successfully submit large grant proposals that advance the mission of CHART, under direction of Center leadership.
    • Coordinating and preparing many of the supporting documents and attachments needed for these large-scale CHART grant submissions.
    • Submit proposals as PI to advance the mission and goals of CHART.
  • Participate in self-monitoring/self-management grants as Co-Investigator and Project Manager: Coordinate and/or lead multiple activities as part of one or more multi-site studies to develop a new system for alleviating symptoms following traumatic injuries and/or neurologic disorders.
  • Participate in Data Analyses: Analyze data using advanced statistical software and write results of data analyses for publications and presentations.
  • Provide consultation on outcomes measurement: Provide consultative services to other investigators on a national and local level. Provide support to other researchers within the University of Delaware as needed.
  • Administrative, Supervisory, and Mentoring of Research Personnel:
    • Provide support and train/supervise research personnel involved in conducting research in CHART.
    • Participate and/or lead RA training (development and implementation) including training related to test administration, data collection, recruitment of participants, IRB compliance, subject population educational materials, and data management.
    • Lab operations: develop, establish, maintain, audit processes and databases to ensure adherence to human subject's protections and other research-related quality standards.
    • Participate in and/or lead web development activities to promote CHART activities and accomplishments.
  • Develop a research participant database: Prepare an IRB protocol that will allow us to consent and establish a research participant database to be used for future studies.
  • Grant Reporting: Assist in and/or take the lead in preparing reports and presentations describing CHART activities and prepare grant forms for key projects as required by funding agency.
  • Timeliness: Ensure that all work is successfully completed according to timelines.
  • Flexibility: Conduct other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. required in clinical psychology, health policy, nursing, physical therapy or other job-related discipline
  • Superior writing skills with track record of publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts and/orwriting and preparing grant submissions
  • Knowledge and expertise in test administration and/or outcomes assessment
  • Expertise in health research methodology and experience leading research studies
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent judgment
  • Eagerness to participate in team-based research

  • Ability to develop and implement new and innovative procedures in the areas of data collection, quality control, and statistical analyses
  • Experience working on Federal grant studies and interfacing with grant teams

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to constructively criticize and suggest viable alternatives
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a team environment and effectively meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
  • Ph.D. with specialization in rehabilitation medicine, rehabilitation psychology, and/or neuropsychology is preferred.
  • Completion of postdoctoral training is preferred.
  • Expertise in spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and/or extremity trauma medicine is preferred.
  • Experience in empirically validated treatments for health-related symptoms is preferred.
  • Experience in video development and/or animation is preferred.
