Accounting Assistant II

PAY GRADE: 27N

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN), established in 2009, is a partnership involving State government, the Delaware institutions of higher education and area industry with DENIN offices located in the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory. DENIN has been established to coordinate the University's multidisciplinary expertise around key environmental issues to coordinate the University's well-established, nationally significant portfolio of environmental science, engineering and policy competencies. To meet Delaware's 21st Century Water and Energy Challenges through Research, Education, and Innovation, a multidisciplinary team of scientists from UD, Delaware State University, Delaware Technical and Community College and Wesley College have joined together to build infrastructure and enhance environmental science and its applications in Delaware.

Under general direction of the Associate Director of the EPSCoR program, the incumbent has primary responsibility for assisting with fiscal management of DENIN grants including EPSCoR Track 1 and Track 2 projects. The incumbent interacts with EPSCoR management, staff, faculty and students, University administrators, and other academic institutions to exchange information, provide guidance on cost-accounting standards; resolve financial issues and prepare and submit reports.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Reconcile, review and allocate charges for staff and faculty purchasing cards.
  • Analyze accounting records for funding availability, accuracy and completeness.
  • Extract information from University financial systems for use in preparing various financial documents, reports, records, etc. and ensures accuracy of these materials.
  • Assist with monitoring budgets, review charges on purpose codes, move after-end charges, correct source code errors, process journal vouchers, and prepare project closeouts as needed.
  • Assist with pre and post award grants processes including proposal submission, reporting, budgeting, and closeout.
  • Assist with various accounting processes and databases.
  • Assist with the review of various accounting statements for financial and managerial reports.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED, Associate's degree preferred, and three to four years' experience; knowledge of federal and state financial regulations, standard accounting principles, methods and applications; knowledge of University accounting procedures, including procurement, travel and/or employment preferred; strong computing skills (word processing, database and spreadsheet preparation and manipulation) to analyze financial data and prepare statements; familiarity with all stages of the grant process from the request for proposal through implementation, evaluation, and closeout to assist with grant administration as needed.
