Academic Program Manager, Student Development and Success Support

PAY GRADE: 30E

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean, the Academic Program Manager for Student Development and Success Support is responsible and accountable for developing, organizing, implementing and evaluating programs, services, and activities associated with the success of prospective, new, and continuing students.

The incumbent is responsible for working collaborative within the college, the university and community to maximize success support services for students in the College of Health Sciences.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directly responsible for the creation and delivery of a variety of programs, services, and initiatives associated with student success, transition and at-risk student services. Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate co-curricular education and academic and resiliency skills programs including tutoring, academic success workshops, note-taking, study strategies, time management, academic self-advocacy, test-taking skills, and critical reasoning; problem solving, and coping skills development.
  • Implement efforts to connect programs and interventions with all students in CHS, with additional recruitment and marketing strategies specific to targeted student groups (freshman, transfer, under-represented, at-risk, first gen) to optimize their participation.
  • Coordinate with other resources on campus to connect students with diagnostic interviews and individual assessment of academic strengths and deficits and to additional academic supports, mindfulness, wellbeing and emotion based coping, and other resources as appropriate.
  • Perform outcomes assessment and analysis. Present findings to key stakeholders and groups and maintain records and reports.
  • Serve as a resource for the college faculty and staff. Research content related to first-year, first gen, URM, at risk and other student transition; provide guidance and support to faculty and administrators by relaying best practices for enrichment sessions, co-curricular activities, success events and other initiatives that support students and maximize their success.
  • Work with administrative support and events staff to coordinate services including facility reservations, catering, vendors, contracts, billing, transportation, accommodations, speakers/presenters as needed.
  • Represent CHS at Admission events (such as Blue and Golden Saturdays, Discovery Days, and Decision Days) assisting with recruitment efforts through formal presentations and individual outreach. Support summer orientation and 1743 Welcome days' sessions as appropriate.
  • Organize, edit and develop content for new and existing written and online materials designed to enhance students' understanding, skills, and strategies that will maximize their success.
  • Works with the Assistant Dean to interview, hire, train, and supervise staff of peer mentors, graduate students, and other staff, as needed, for Dean's office programming.
  • Identify grant opportunities for the college to apply to in order to grow the pipeline program.
  • Interact with internal and external individuals and groups on significant matters often requiring coordination between several offices and/or institutions.
  • Provide clear and effective written and verbal communication to a wide-range of position levels from various institutions.
  • Coordinate the development, evaluation, and dissemination of program policies, procedures, and materials. Develop operational processes and procedures as well as manuals, as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in student personnel, college counseling or related field preferred), or a related area and three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, and skill in organizing resources and establishing and adjusting priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills with the demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals.
  • Establish and enhance effective working relationships with internal colleagues and partners external to the university,
  • Program planning, development, implementation, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, and laws regarding student records and information.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials and online resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of student success issues and concerns.
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate issues, proactively seek resolutions, make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Advanced research, analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the academic and co-curricular factors leading to student success at the post secondary level.
  • Strong data and records management skills.
  • Special requirements: Will require some evening and weekend hours.
