President & Chief Executive Officer

The National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), located in Washington, D.C., is seeking applications for the position of President & Chief Executive Officer.

ASSOCIATION BACKGROUND

The National Association of College and University Business Officers (“NACUBO” or the “Association”) is the nation’s premier membership organization representing a dynamic network of more than 1,900 college and university Business Officers from across the United States. NACUBO serves a vital role in advocating on behalf of the Chief Business and Financial Officers while also offering access to robust professional development opportunities.

The association’s mission is to advance the economic viability, business practices and support for higher education institutions. To accomplish this agenda, NACUBO collaborates with the broader higher education community to advance a legislative agenda that addresses the important issues facing the industry and the association’s members with key policy makers at the national, state and local level. Among NACUBO’s legislative priorities are tax policy, financial aid and other regulatory compliance issues related to higher education. Further, NACUBO offers extensive programming throughout the year designed to help members to grow in their professions, gain access to thought leadership from the nation’s industry experts, and learn about emerging trends that can positively impact the business of higher education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The President & Chief Executive Officer (“President”) reports directly to the NACUBO Board of Directors and works in close partnership with the Board and other volunteer leadership. The President is responsible for all operations of the Association (revenues total approximately $17M annually) and directs a group of highly professional staff members to achieve the goals set forth in NACUBO’s strategic blueprint. Serving as the chief spokesperson for the Association and representing NACUBO on policy matters before Congress, Federal administrative offices, regulatory agencies, and numerous other venues, the President also represents and speaks on behalf of NACUBO in the higher education association community, with foundations and think tanks, and with the business community.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

The President will be a strategic, charismatic, and innovative leader who will build on the organization's strong legacy, while advancing priority objectives for continued growth. NACUBO requires a President who is fully capable of representing colleges and universities at the national level, of managing staff and other resources to fulfill the mission of the Association effectively and efficiently, and of working productively and cooperatively with the Board of Directors, volunteer committees, the membership, the regional associations, other higher education associations and the business community. As the Association’s primary representative, there is significant travel and public speaking involved among the position’s responsibilities.

Experience working within large and complex organizational cultures is a must. An understanding of the issues that are confronting higher education, especially within the business and financial arena, is needed as well as the ability to produce results in complex organizations. She/he must have a profound belief in the mission of today’s colleges and universities.

EDUCATION

Master’s degree is strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree required.
