Social and Emerging Media Manager (Publicity/Marketing Manager), UCP 7


The University of Connecticut is seeking an experienced Social and Emerging Media Manager to oversee the @UConn accounts and develop digital media content and campaigns for targeted audiences, including alumni, opinion leaders, current and prospective students, and other University constituents, in support of the University's brand and reputation. The Social and Emerging Media Manager will administer the University's social media guidelines and serve as a resource to social media and marketing managers within the community. The successful candidate should demonstrate knowledge of major social media platforms and a passion for keeping up with the ever-changing nature of the medium. The successful candidate will be expected to exercise originality, creativity and to regularly develop his/her own ideas within broad guidelines established by the supervisor. Work is varied and requires a sound understanding of subject and target audience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field; minimum of 5 years relevant experience; demonstrated experience in new media or social media strategy, implementation and measurement with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Twitter, etc.) and how they can be deployed in different scenarios; superior writing, communication, interpersonal, diplomatic and organizational skills; ability to be actively engaged in a number of projects simultaneously, meet and enforce deadlines, take initiative, work independently to carry out complex assignments; b asic knowledge of graphic design and awareness of graphic needs to complement content and platform; p roficiency in Adobe Photoshop and the ability to crop, resize, and otherwise edit photos for social media; willingness to work flexible hours when activities fall outside normal working hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Journalism, marketing, communications, or related field; experience in, or strong knowledge of, the field of higher education.

Appointment Terms:

This is a full-time position.
