Financial Assistant 2 (UCP 5)


This position is a state, salaried, full-time position employed by the University of Connecticut's Department of Dining Services, Storrs Campus. This position, under the general direction of the Fiscal Manager or designee, is responsible for varied accounting and bookkeeping functions within the Department of Dining Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate is responsible for processing and verifying the department's invoices, credit memos and other disbursements using KFS. The department's invoices average in excess of $500,000 weekly. Enters optional and summer resident meal plan purchases into PeopleSoft for student billing purposes; processes travel reimbursement for the department. This position may assist with payroll functions as needed, maintains and monitors financial records and accounts for the department. Includes 20 plus hours per week of processing invoices or approving bills for payment in the University Kuali system. Monitors expenditures to ensure budget limits are met; processes cash receipt reconciliations for the Dining Services Main Office and prepares account analyses and reconciliations as needed. Prepares and/or runs reports from Kuali and Webfocus to include monthly unit profit and loss reports, vendor spend reports, aging reports, various analysis reports, as well as other ad-hoc reports when requested. Sets up new customers in KFS and prepare customer invoices; processes and monitors internal billings, distribution of income and expenses and general error corrections through Kuali. Assists with the annual budget construction process, may supervise staff as needed and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Five to ten years progressively responsible experience in financial record keeping, supervision and reporting. Sound knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal control methods; knowledge of accounting practices and procedures; Ability to analyze and modify fiscal procedures and the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting and two to four years related experience; moderate experience in Excel and six months accounts receivable experience.
