Financial Assistant 1, UCP 1


The Institute of Materials Science is seeking applicants for a full-time Financial Assistant 1 (UCP 1) for the University of Connecticut. The Institute of Materials Science is an interdisciplinary institute with a threefold mission fostering education, research, and outreach in all areas of the materials sciences.

Under the direction of the Institute's Assistant Finance Director, the incumbent will keep a complete set of records of financial transactions within the Institute. This will include providing support for administration of grants and processes supporting fiscal operations within the group's research projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Analyze and verify details of financial transactions such as invoices, requisitions, payroll, and other disbursements in conjunction with University and Institute policies and procedures.
  2. Provide financial support to the Institute by processing payroll, procurement, travel and out of pocket reimbursements, reconciliation of the ProCard, and oversight of Foundation accounts including deposits and disbursements.
  3. Provide statistical information on various expenditures and compile regular reports utilizing electronic spreadsheets and databases.
  4. Provide data for proposal development, prepare budget/budget justifications, complete standard forms, and monitor expenditures for compliance with approved budget limits and applicable policies.
  5. Prepare, process, monitor, track, interpret, and maintain all fiscal records for multiple Institute and faculty accounts including payroll, purchasing, travel, and other disbursements to ensure compliance within federal, state, and University policies.
  6. Resolve outstanding issues on fiscal accounts including follow up on problems to assure timely and accurate completion of work.
  7. Independently prepare correspondence related to financial issues.
  8. Serve as liaison between UConn units, faculty, and external sponsors.
  9. Review post-award effort reports and manage effort certification process for faculty researchers.
  10. Maintain hardcopy and electronic files in accordance with best practices set forth by the Assistant Finance Director.
  11. Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Associates degree in accounting or bookkeeping.
  2. Two years' experience in accounting or bookkeeping.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
  2. Experience working in a higher education setting.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Demonstrated customer service skills.
  5. Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft programs.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time permanent position with excellent healthcare and retirement benefits package. The anticipated salary is $40K and is commensurate with experience.
