Assistant Director of Athletic Communications/Graphic Design (Writer/Editor 3),


The University of Connecticut is seeking applications for the full time position of Assistant Directorof Athletic Communications/Graphic Design. Responsibilities will include serving as the primary Athletic Communications contact by developing, writing, and editing communications designed to promote the 11-time national champion women's basketball team, with the possibility of serving as the primary contact for additional sports.

The successful candidate will also possess strong proficiency in the area of graphic design and will work closely with the Coordinator of Graphic and Digital Design and the Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Communications with the objective of enhancing the athletic department's presence on digital and social platforms.

The successful candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, a good communicator and possess the ability to handle numerous assignments in a timely manner with the flexibility to adjust to unscheduled developments involving immediate attention.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Sports Management, Graphic Design or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the media relations field.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Expertise in PhotoShop, InDesign and/or other Adobe Creative Suite software with proven skill in the area of graphic design.
  • Proficient in StatCrew software.
  • Experience using a content management system tool such as Netitor.
  • A demonstrated working knowledge of the correct application of NCAA regulations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Sports Management, Graphic Design or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in college athletics.
  • Experience in the creation and implementation of animated graphics.
  • Athletic media relations experience as a primary or secondary contact in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Proven ability to multi-task effectively, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with an athletics program that is covered prominently in the local and/or national media.

Salary commensurate with experience.
