ABI Companion Needed - IMMEDIATE OPENINGS!  Companions to provide non-medical care, supervision, and socialization to a consumer with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). The companion may assist in or supervise various tasks such as meal preparation, but does not perform these activities as discrete services. May include cueing and/or incidental hands-on assistance with activities of daily living. Having a car available during entire shift and having a valid driver's license are a must for this position. Must be at least 18 years of age. Independent Living Skills Trainer (ILST) a plus, Associates Degree preferred.  High school diploma required.  Must be willing to drive within 20 mile radius of area.

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Engages consumer and provides companionship
  • Assisting with communication device usage, including telephone usage and computer skills
  • Providing all required documentation in accordance with the clients individualized plan
  • Assisting with specialization and interpersonal skills in public, private, and work settings including but not limited to verbal cueing and supervision of setting boundaries, behavior in both public and private settings
  • Assisting with sensory stimulation and motor skills
  • Providing supervision with task completion
  • Assisting with problem solving
  • Assisting with/or providing transportation for outings such as doctor visits, shopping, banking, errands
  • Providing supervision with household management, including verbal cueing, supervision and assisting with light housekeeping, including vacuuming, dusting, general cleaning, sorting, and any other household chores that are deemed necessary to maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Providing supervision with the care of family pets if applicable
  • Observe and report any safety hazards found in the client's home or any significant observations regarding the client
  • Managing medical appointments and reporting the results to your immediate supervisor and team 
  • Respecting the rights of the client and maintaining confidentiality at all times
