A Postdoctoral Fellow at the Trinity College Counseling Center is a full-time (40 hrs/wk), eleven-month (Sep-July) fellowship which meets the Connecticut requirements for post-doctoral experience for licensure as a psychologist in Connecticut. Competitive salary and full benefits are provided.

Responsibilities include:

Individual Psychotherapy: The fellow will conduct an average of 20 hours of individual therapy per week during the school year. During the summer, activities will vary and include: individual psychotherapy, program planning, outreach and psychoeducation, etc. One staff psychologist will be assigned as the primary supervisor and will meet one hour per week with the fellow. Another staff psychologist will serve as the secondary supervisor and will meet one hour per week with the fellow. There will also be an hour and half per week of group supervision with the staff psychologists and the practicum students.

Learning Disabilities Assessment: The Counseling Center serves as the conduit for students requesting special accommodation for learning disabilities, and the fellow will have significant involvement in this process. In conjunction with the Student Accommodations Coordinator, along with other full-time staff members, the fellow will evaluate documentation submitted by outside health care providers and the student, and make recommendations to the Dean of Students Office and determinations about accommodation requests. Supervision will be provided by one of the staff psychologists. Some basic assessment screening may be involved, but likely will not include conducting a full LD assessment, which is usually done outside of the college.

Supervision: Depending on the needs and interests of the fellow, opportunities to provide ongoing clinical supervision to second- and third- year doctoral students who are in practicum placements at the Counseling Center will be available.

Outreach: The fellow will have the opportunity, and will be encouraged, to be involved in various campus outreach activities within the limits of available time. As with other staff psychologists, a fellow may give informal talks on various topics to different groups on campus. The topics of the talks are determined based on the requests and needs of the students. The Center is also involved in working with other campus groups. A fellow will be able to participate in the training of the resident assistants, first year seminar mentors, PRIDE leaders, and first year student orientation.

Group Psychotherapy: The fellow may have an opportunity to participate in facilitating a group as the need presents itself. Groups are designed to meet the needs of the students and therefore vary year to year. Groups in the past have included eating concerns, sexual issues, and other topics.

Crisis Intervention: The fellow will gain experience in crisis intervention, including, as needed, facilitating hospitalization of student patients, dealing with psychological emergencies, and providing on call services after hours as needed, etc.

Seminars and Colloquia: It is expected that the fellow will have the opportunity to attend Grand Rounds with staff and fellows at the Institute of Living, the mental health wing of Hartford Hospital, which is located one block from the Counseling Center. Other training opportunities with other fellowship sites in the greater Hartford area are being explored. Within the center, the fellow will participate in psychodynamic, mindfulness, and outreach seminars on a rotating basis.

Experience: Must have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree in psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D). Must have professional liability insurance.
