Director of Housing

The Director of Housing is a member of the Housing and Residential Education Senior Leadership team which strives to offer students a quality and meaningful residential community through educational and social programming and student focused leadership opportunities. Under the administrative direction of the Executive Director of Housing and Residential Education, this position provides visionary leadership and administration for the student housing program for the University; directs housing operations including but not limited to occupancy and facilities management, marketing/social media, budget and coordination of housing assessment efforts. This position supervises two Assistant Directors, a Graduate Assistant, the residence halls student desk staff and co-supervises the Office Manager.

 Essential Position Functions:

  • Housing Operations: 

    • Leadership and coordination of all software (StarRez) processes required for university needs. Serves as the primary liaison with StarRez and University users. 

    • Oversee and coordinate the Contract Release process for students requesting exemption from the two-year live on requirement including building relationships with multiple campus departments. Organize committee meetings; keep open lines of communication with staff and students regarding results of petitions and assist students in appeal processes and follow-up with release. 

    • Oversight of the residential housing program capacity, occupancy and assignments and facilities management.

    Manage all HRE marketing material and website. 

  • Direct contact and liaison for Conferencing and Event Services. 

  • Primary contact and manager for HRE managed common space used by students and university community members. 

  • Coordinate all departmental marketing and social media efforts. 

  • Oversee assessment for HRE

  • Fiscal Management: 

    • Work with Executive Director, Assistant Director -Operations & Director of Budget and Planning to create annual HRE project budget 

    • Coordinate with staff and campus offices appropriate student fees for housing, dining and property damage. 

  • Supervisor Duties:

    • Supervision of Assistant Director- Occupancy; Assistant Director- Operations; Graduate Assistant and; co-supervision (with the Director of Student Life Budget and Planning) of the Office Manager.

    • Additionally this position provides leadership and oversight of the Desk Managers for each of the five residence halls on campus and the apartment office desk

  • Other Responsibilities: 

    • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to inclusive excellence through hiring practices, training and development of employees, programming, campus collaborations and involvement in university/division-wide projects and initiatives. 

    • Participate in and contribute to assigned departmental committees and trainings (such as Professional Staff Development and Training, Inclusive Excellence, Sustainability, Recruitment and Hiring). 

    • Collaborate with other professional staff members and student staff members in HRE to further the departments mission, vision, values, and goals 

    • Other duties as assigned

Required Education, Skills, & Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Student Personnel/Higher Education, Business Administration, Facilities Planning and Management or related fields

  • Two years full-time post Master’s degree work experience with housing operations in residence life

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, Solid mathematical skills and general familiarity with accounting methods

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Access, and Word

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the principles of inclusive excellence

  • Demonstrates respect for the rights of others regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, ability, economic status, religion, or culture

Preferred Education & Qualifications:

  • Experience with facilities management, supervision of professional staff & students, project management

  • Experience with StarRez
