Job Profile:

Under direction of the Senior Administrative Dean, Counseling, Retention and Student Wellness, the Project Manager will work with the lead VRC counselor and other VRC faculty and staff to improve or enhance the educational outcomes of student veterans, focusing on course completion, transfer and employment.

 

Project Duration:

The Project Manager will work for a duration of 2 years with the grant beginning November 1, 2018.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Improve or enhance the education outcomes of student veterans, focusing on course completion, persistence, and goal attainment, including degree or certification completion, transfer, and employment;

• Provide targeted assistance to female veterans in an effort to improve academic performance;

• Organize a student support group, networking events, and other services for female veterans;

• Collaborate with Financial Aid and the Scholarship Office to help students identify and secure additional financial aid beyond what is provided by the military;

• Develop/strengthen peer mentoring group;

• Increase the number and percentage of student veterans who earn Associate degrees, including Associate Degrees for Transfer, and Certificates;

• Work with faculty to monitor student success during the semester and offer early alert advising to students who are struggling;

• Increase the number and percentage of student veterans who successfully transfer from a community college to a four-year college/university;

• Organize campus visits to several 4-year colleges and universities in California;

• Host transfer advisers and veterans resource staff from regional four-year colleges and universities to advise and support the transfer process;

• Work with Institutional Research to develop a survey tool that assesses student veteran needs including program satisfaction;

• Assist veterans with job readiness and attainment by hosting career workshops with employers in areas of interest to veterans;

• Create an interdisciplinary work group focused on the success of the student veterans that will meet regularly to identify and address the needs and concerns of student veterans, faculty and programs;

• Identify faculty professional development needs and topics for student support workshops;

• Provide faculty-led math tutoring;

• Effectively manage all aspects of the grant, including budget and mid-term/year-end reports;

• Assume leadership for other related projects and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a Master's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution, and one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonable related to the administrator's administrative assignment, or the equivalent*.

 

Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the socio-economic, academic, cultural and ethnic diversity within the college student population including students with physical and/or learning disabilities as these factors relate to differences in learning styles.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Background in veterans services (Veterans status is highly desirable)

• Experience in administrative grant funded project management.

• Experience with event planning, budget management, and report writing.

• Ability to work effectively and provide leadership as a member of a team to realize program goals.

• Willingness to adopt a flexible "hands on" approach to complete tasks in a dynamic work environment.

• Strong computer skills and the ability to work with technical staff in developing technology solutions.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills so as to be able to collect and analyze the appropriate data and information to ensure that the programs are regularly assessed and enhanced.

• Excellent analytical, organization, and presentation skills.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
