Starting Salary Range: $26.34-$29.45/hourly. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Printing and UNIX Software Administrator is a position in Information Technology Services (ITS) in the Academic Divisional Computing (ADC) / Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE) department. Primary responsibilities include managing printers and printer queues using both CUPS and Windows print servers, and installing and upgrading UNIX software on CentOS, Ubuntu, Solaris and other UNIX-like systems. Secondary responsibilities include creating and maintaining scripts to perform various tasks, overseeing student workers who perform basic printer service functions, or a combination of these and/or other IT functions. This position also acts as a back-up to our Windows system administrator. This position works with other IT staff as needed to perform group projects. Additional responsibilities or assignments may be given as needed by the unit.

Custom Scope:
Works independently and/or in a group. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to complex problems within defined policies and procedures. Normally receives general instructions, with detailed instructions provided on complex new project assignments and initiatives. Works with both internal University contacts and external vendors as needed. Makes periodic progress reports to supervisor.
Qualifications include:
Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Expert knowledge of printer management, including printer model selection, physically installing and removing printers, configuring print servers (including CUPS and Windows), and physically maintaining printers
Ability to stock printer supplies, including moving and carrying objects up to 50 pounds, such as printers and boxes of paper
Expert knowledge of UNIX software package management in CentOS, Ubuntu, Solaris and others
Expert knowledge of diagnosing and repairing UNIX software problems, including hand-compiling libraries and packages as needed
