Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents.
Employee Housing conducts a rental housing program intended to provide a "landing pad," or transitional housing, for new UCSC employees. Also in support of the academic mission, and to support creation of communities of learning, Employee Housing conducts a for-sale housing program, the objectives of which are to help meet institutional goals for the recruitment and retention of long-term qualified faculty and staff.
Under the general supervision of the Employee Housing Program Manager, the Employee Program Assistant, working independently, is responsible for the day to day operation of the faculty and staff apartments, and, in general, assists in all aspects of the operation of a multifaceted housing program for campus employees. The program provides faculty with mortgage assistance, assists employees with campus rental housing, and oversees the purchase and resale of campus town homes, condominiums, and single-family homes, and coordinates and supports on-campus residential life for faculty and staff. The incumbent assists with reception and clerical functions for the program, and assumes responsibility for many of the accounting/business operations of the unit with minimal overview.
Qualifications include:
Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong customer service skills, and the ability to help others understand policies and procedures.
Ability to be tactful, diplomatic, thoughtful and persuasive in personal contacts with tenants, homeowners, and internal university personnel.
Demonstrated successful experience working with diverse groups of people from a variety of cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Strong oral and written communication skills. The ability to make appropriate use of, and to adapt as necessary, routine letters, electronic messages, forms, templates, and other standardized forms of communication. Strong grammar and usage skills appropriate to a professional/academic enterprise.
Related bookkeeping/accounting skills sufficient to maintain program business operations and to independently identify problems and inconsistencies.
