Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment in Accounting (PSOE)

 

The Economics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a position with a specialty in accounting. The successful candidate will be expected to teach both introductory and advanced accounting courses, design and teach new specialized accounting courses, and provide programmatic leadership for the department’s Business Management Economics major. Duties will consist of teaching an “eight course equivalent workload” (fulfilled by teaching six courses and performing a level service equivalent to two courses per academic year), including teaching in all three quarters of the academic year; comprehensive duties require ability in administrative leadership, execution of Academic Senate member responsibilities, student advising on accounting and business careers, and committee work, particularly in the areas of the Department’s Business Management Economics Program and curriculum planning for the accounting focus. Candidates must be able to liaison with accounting firms and businesses to provide internship and career opportunities for accounting students and to work with students and faculty from a wide variety of social and cultural backgrounds. Candidates will be evaluated on their demonstrated ability to teach students and on their university and professional service and leadership. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and/or service.

 

The Lecturer PSOE rank is a full-time position with the rights and responsibilities of membership in the Academic Senate; “Potential Security of Employment” is analogous to tenure-track. Appointees are appointed for two year terms and are eligible for promotion to "Security of Employment", which is analogous to tenure.  Appointees must be granted "Security of Employment” by the end of the eighth year of service.  Teaching, professional achievement and activity, and university and public service constitute the criteria for advancement.  Appointees to this title must also demonstrate intellectual leadership, as documented by materials demonstrating that the candidate has made outstanding and recognized contributions to the development of his or her special field and/or of pedagogy, through publication (either in traditional forms or in electronic format), creative accomplishments, or other professional activity.

 

RANK:  Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:   CPA, MA, MBA, PhD or equivalent degree in accounting, economics, business, or related field. Accounting teaching experience demonstrated by college level teaching experience, TA experience, research presentations and/or professional development training seminars. Record of leadership in and service to the accounting profession. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   Undergraduate and graduate student advising experience. Knowledge of proficiency-based curricula and CPA test requirements. Experience coordinating internships and career placement.
