PR \u0026 Communications Specialist

GENERAL SUMMARY:Working under the direction of the Executive Director, External Affairs, the Communications Specialist assists with the development and execution of comprehensive communications tactics that support institutional priorities and objectives. This individual will work with cross-functional partners to execute strategies and tactics to reach and inform various internal and external audiences (including students, faculty, staff and alumni). The Communications Specialist will support the mission of the university by writing and managing content for the university websites, e-newsletters and social media channels; assist with promoting the image of the institution to internal and external constituencies through media outreach; and other responsibilities as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with the development and integration of high-impact communication strategies and vehicles to promote engagement and the overall integrity of USAHS's culture of commitment to excellence in health science education.
  • Assist with the development and creation of content for the University website (blogs and articles), social media, news articles and media materials.
  • Coordinates Campus Connections, the University's weekly e-newsletter dedicated to sharing stories and informing students, faculty and staff. It provides information about the university, its people and the professions we serve.
  • Supports internal communication to USAHS faculty, staff, and administration by preparing documents such as organizational announcements, executive emails, presentations, etc.
  • Establishes individual strategies for measuring communication effectiveness and outcomes; will be responsible for weekly analysis and reporting of results.

External Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience (which could include internships).Previous experience in higher education a plus.
  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or related field required
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed, demonstrated teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods, approaches, and departmental contribution. Commitment to continuous learning
  • Familiarity with the tools of the trade including PR, written communication, social media strategies, online community moderation and engagement tactics
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Basic graphic design, HTML or video editing skills are a plus but not required.
