Salary Range: $3,470 - $6,114 per month (Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,470 - 4,200 per month)

Position Description:
Academic Affairs Technical Services is the primary technical support group within the administrative offices in Academic Affairs (AA). AA Technical Services direct technology support for workstations, local area networks, and applications used in the division by approximately 200 employees.



Under direct supervision the incumbent will provide daily technical and consultative support, training, and documentation for the Academic Affairs Division staff. This position performs hardware and software installation. The incumbent maintains and supports existing programs, applications and databases, and other general support tasks.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Bachelor's Degree and two years of relevant experience (additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of required education on a year-for-year basis)


Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical staff in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people, effectively and clearly.
  • Ability to research technical problems, develop solutions following standards, and provide training to others on the resolution.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating system use and configuration, working knowledge of PC computer hardware, working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to write effective technical documentation following department standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work in conjunction with others to design, develop and deliver end-user training.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, skills, and applications.
  • Ability to communicate project status in writing, identify and communicate resource needs, and escalate problems immediately.
  • Ability to translate campus information security policy and standards into specific application risks and requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot system connection and interface malfunctions.
  • Knowledge of operating systems and hardware for problem identification and analysis.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
    • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory Group Policy Objects
  • Working knowledge of Dell computer hardware.
    • Working knowledge of LanDesk Management Suite

Special Conditions:

  • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
  • Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
  • Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bonafide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
  • This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment."
