Position Description:
Cal Poly is Seeking a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist for the Human Resources Department!

The Position:
The Senior Talent Acquisition (TA) Specialist plays a key role in the identification, attraction, and selection of top talent for Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Reporting to the Director of Talent Acquisition, the TA Specialist has functional knowledge and acts as a consultant and advisor to the hiring manager and the search committee to ensure the attraction and selection of a broad and diverse pool of qualified candidates for staff and management positions. In addition to providing consultative support, the TA Specialist engages in the activities and projects related to planning, attraction, selection, and hiring, including sourcing for and engaging with prospective candidates, managing the employee brand, designing and implementing marketing campaigns, managing and improving databases, sending and analyzing surveys, inputting data into complex systems. In order to develop and maintain a thorough knowledge, the TA Specialist conducts research and analysis in key areas of recruitment, including regulation, policy, process, outreach, brand, marketing, assessment, compensation, technology, and continuous process improvement. This role partners with HR peers, department and division HR professionals, and external resources to assess strategic priorities and implement campus-wide solutions.

  • Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Three years of technical or administrative experience. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    1. Working knowledge of research and analysis techniques, including project design, data collection, qualitative and quantitative analysis, the presentation of findings, and the creation and implementation of appropriate recommendations
    2. Skilled in talent assessment and selection techniques
    3. Skilled at developing and delivering clear, concise, and effective communications to different audiences utilizing multiple modalities, including email, social media, phone, presentations, and trainings
    4. Demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships and work collaboratively and professionally with others to meet shared objectives
    5. Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond professionally and appropriately to conflicts and issues as they arise
    6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse array of individuals and with those from different backgrounds

    Organized Achiever
    7. Thorough working knowledge of current best practices and trends within recruiting and ability to apply knowledge to advance defined goals and outcomes
    8. Thorough working knowledge of laws, regulations, and common policies and procedures as they relate to recruiting

    10. Demonstrated advanced skill and knowledge of using common, specialized, and legacy computer applications, including email, spreadsheets, applicant tracking systems, and proprietary databases

    Preferred Qualifications:
    1. A bachelor's or higher degree in a related field
    2. Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies, and procedures
    3. Experience working in a recruiting capacity for medium to large organization with complex policies, processes, and structure
    4. Experience in the use recruiting of software solutions, including applicant tracking systems and CRMs
    5. Experience using social media and other new media for prospect generation

  • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
  • Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
  • This position classification has been defined as "Exempt" and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

    May be required to complete a Supplemental Employment Application Questionnaire, which contains questions pertaining to conviction history, and submit it when requested by Cal Poly. This disclosure is confidential and will not necessarily preclude applicants from employment.

    Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
