Position Description:
The purpose of Campus Health & Wellbeing is to help students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health and well-being by providing timely and appropriate primary and acute health care, disease and injury prevention education, professional mental health, outreach, educational services and campus consultations.

Under the general direction of the X-Ray Supervisor, the Radiologic Technologist has responsibility for taking and developing plain diagnostic X-rays, ensuring the quality, safety, and organization of the X-ray operations including compliance with standards and regulations, and interfacing with patients, clinicians, and vendors, as well as performing medical office assistant, lab, and other support duties when not occupied in the X-ray department.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
High school diploma or equivalent plus the requisite postsecondary education to obtain a Certificate of Radiologic Technology from an accredited school of radiologic technology.

Possess (or ability to obtain by date of hire) and maintain the following:

  • Valid and current Certificate of Radiologic Technology as a certified radiologic technologist issued by the Radiologic Health Branch of the California Department of Health Services.
  • Valid and current basic life support cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification.


Required Qualifications:
  1. Through knowledge of modern X-ray and CR equipment and techniques; regional and gross anatomy of the human body, standardized radiological clinical procedures.
  2. Knowledge of principles of radiation protection and hazards of radiologic materials and the safety precautions required; industry standards and ethics pertaining to radiologic technology; and federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to radiology.
  3. Ability to perform general diagnostic radiographic procedures and effectively assess the quality of images taken; operate allocable diagnostic equipment including X-ray and digital imaging equipment; produce quality radiographs and images using applicable systems to manipulate and enhance images; and perform simple maintenance on applicable equipment.
  4. Ability to effectively use computerized systems associated with producing and manipulating computerized images; and maintain records and use applicable computerized systems.
  5. Ability to recognize patient emergencies and alert practitioners.
  6. Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
  7. Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  8. Working knowledge of and ability to use medical terminology, scheduling and medical records techniques, follow general medical principles and practices such as universal precautions, aseptic technique, first aid, and CPR at the heathcare provider w/AED level.
  9. Working knowledge of CLIA-waived testing procedures and methods. Demonstrated ability to apply various techniques to collect required specimens with accuracy and detail.
  10. Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
  11. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  12. Strong computer skills including familiarity with both standard office and specialized X-ray setting medical software including medical scheduling programs and electronic health records.
  13. Sound knowledge and skills relevant to confidential data management for both manual and automated/computerized information systems used in radiologic and health care settings.
  14. Ability to project an image of competence, kindness, courtesy, and professionalism that enhances patient and public confidence in the Student Health Center.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Two or more years of progressive experience as a Radiologic Technologist in an appropriate healthcare setting.
  2. Experience with performing digital radiography studies.
  3. Possession of valid and current certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, as defined by the California Department of Health Services, which permits the incumbent to perform skin punctures and venipuncture.
  4. Experience working in a college student health center.

Special Conditions:

  • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
  • Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
  • Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
  • This position is paid under the 10/12 pay plan, where the salary for 10 months is distributed over 12 months. The salary listed above is the salary that will be received every month. The incumbent will have June and December off every year (with pay, benefits, and vacation/sick leave accrual continuing through months off).
