Salary Range: Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base.

Position Description:
The Food Science and Nutrition Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers in culinary practice and foodservice. Teaching assignments will be made as needed during Fall, Winter, and/or Spring quarter of the 2018-19 academic year. Lecturers are expected to teach undergraduate food preparation classes and/or supervised field experiences in one or more of the following areas: culinary skills and methods at the introductory and intermediate levels, institutional foodservice, and food systems management. Laboratory sections are 3 hours once a week per section. Multiple laboratory sections may be assigned. Applications are welcomed from candidates with experience in the following areas: extensive professional cooking experience with line management responsibilities (chef, sous-chef), food service management or culinary-focused experience in the hospitality industry.

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience and time base.

APPOINTMENTS FROM THE PART-TIME POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM, AND APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE ON VERY SHORT NOTICE.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):


Required Qualifications:
Bachelor or associate degree in culinary sciences or culinary arts, food science, nutrition, foodservice, hospitality and two or more years of relevant professional experience. ServSafe certified or able to obtain certification within first year of service and maintain as required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching experience desirable. Motivation to instruct, supervise and mentor young people.

Special Conditions:
