Position Description:
The Construction Management Department enjoys a longstanding national reputation for excellence and innovation in construction management education. The Department's new Head will enhance the vision and spirit of the department while embracing its successful culture and leading continuous improvement efforts. Student success and championing the Learn by Doing tradition of the university are paramount. The Department Head also is expected to be devoted to students, teach undergraduate courses, possess a passion for making learning enjoyable, advise students on department and university policy, mentor student organizations and competition teams, collaborate with related disciplines, and assume a leadership role in promoting diversity and inclusion. The Head will further partnerships with alumni, collaborate closely with industry representatives, and serve on the leadership team of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. Candidates with exceptional qualifications and experience may be granted tenure upon hire. The program's unique, integrated curriculum requires the effective management of fiscal resources, human resources, and physical facilities, as well as fundraising for supplemental financial support. The Head will be an active teacher-scholar who provides the leadership that will continue to distinguish the Construction Management Department as the premier program of its class.

The terms of this appointment will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate. An academic-year appointment with the addition of a fractional summer assignment, or a 12-month appointment may be considered by the Dean. Terms of appointment are subject to change at the Dean's discretion.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):


Required Qualifications:
1. Degree and Rank: From an accredited university; a master's degree in construction management, or a master's degree in a closely related field with extensive professional experience, or a doctorate or other terminal degree in construction management or a related field.
2. Experience: Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry or comparable international experience, with management experience in academia or in industry.
3. Disposition: Ability to communicate effectively; work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; behave professionally; and perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university level.
4. Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take a leadership role in the department.
5. Advancement: Evidence of having secured external funding.
6. Research: Ability to conduct independent research and publish papers within an undergraduate construction management program.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Degree: Doctorate appropriate to the position.
2. Teaching Experience: Relevant teaching experience, with preference given to teaching experience in higher education.
3. Professional Experience: Three years of professional experience in a project management or supervisory capacity.
4. Certification: Professional certifications or licenses related to the construction industry.
5. Teaching: Ability to teach in an integrated curriculum applied to a variety of construction building areas including: design management, jobsite management, residential, commercial, heavy civil, and/or specialty.
6. Leadership: Ability to advise/mentor/coach undergraduate construction management students, develop undergraduate curriculum, and participate in regional/national seminars, workshops, and committees.
7. Advancement: Demonstrated success in securing and maintaining external funding.
8. Temperament: Evidence of collegiality, successful interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels and positions.
9. Specialization: A construction related specialization; including but not limited to building information modeling, integrated project delivery, lean construction, building services, sustainability, etc.
10. Technology: Competency in construction management software applications.
11. Research: Evidence of established track record of research and publication within an undergraduate construction management program.
