Position Description:
***THIS POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED***
Under the general direction of the associate dean, this position serves as the Supervisor* for the CAFES Computing and Technical Support Team and has authority for daily operational decisions, providing leadership, direction and work assignments to the computing and technical support team. This position directs team members and works with end-users to identify and document project objectives, technical requirements, and ensures excellent technical service college wide. In addition to providing technical support services to the college this position will provide input to the strategic plan for the use of technology to enhance pedagogy and improve student learning while working collaboratively with faculty, subject matter experts, support staff and the CAFES computing and technical support team.
Provide day-to-day operational leadership and coordination of CAFES computing and technical support services to ensure maintenance of existing systems, implementation of new systems, and implementation of service and process improvements. Escalate issues appropriately.

Build, lead, supervise* and motivate and support staff to effectively meet program goals.
Collaborate with Information Technology Services on future CAFES IT recruitments.
Assist computing and technical services support team personnel with annual evaluations.
Provide technical coordination and resource planning for projects. Provide effective and efficient project and service oversight.
Provide technical support of the university's instructional technology tools.
Determine training needs and train staff as appropriate.
Communicate regularly with CAFES Dean's Office about staffing, computing needs and operations.
Coordinate and oversee the Faculty Workstation Program with CAFES computing staff.
Ability to perform job duties related to site administration and instructional media development as needed.
Help develop, implement and evaluate the CAFES College computing strategic plan. Provide comprehensive consultative support to faculty and subject matter experts to enhance the use and access of technology and information systems.
Understand, analyze and diagnose user needs for instructional technology and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Recommend best practices, approaches and technology solutions to improve student learning.
Apply general knowledge of requirements for ADA compliance where appropriate.
Ensure laboratory classroom computing and technical needs are met.
Oversee network storage and ensure backup and restore procedures are effective.
Establish and maintain productive communication channels between CAFES and Information Technology Services, and serve as primary liaison with ITS.
Identify and implement best practices to ensure security, availability, and reliability of the production environment.
Assess, plan, monitor and administer security system performance capacity and resource requirements on centrally supported operating systems.
Design, develop, customize, program and implement tools and solutions for automated services and user interfaces.
Recommend upgrades to hardware and software in order to maintain optimal performance, accommodate growth and incorporate new technology.
Assess vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations.
Provide staff and faculty with an understanding of best practices, policies, and procedures regarding accessibility, FERPA, and information security.

Bachelor's Degree and two years of relevant experience (additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of required education on a year-for-year basis).

Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
Ability to move desktop computer systems and printers (up to 50 lbs) and work in confined spaces if necessary to support network connections.
This position classification has been defined as exempt and is not subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment
