Position Description:
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN EXPERIENCE INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT - TENURE TRACK. The EXPERIENCE INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA, invites applications for a tenuretrack, academic year position. Starting date is negotiable, but on or before September 13, 2018, is preferred. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate level courses, and graduate level courses in the Experience Industry Management Department, and courses specific to an area of expertise in Tourism, Hospitality & Destination Management. Examples of potential courses may include: Experiential Marketing Strategies for Experience Industry Management, Destination Management, Sport & Event Venue Management, Professionalism & Customer Experiences, Destination & Hospitality Analytics, Principles of Experience Industry Management, Introduction to the Experience Industry, Experience Program Design, and Financial Management in the Experience Industry.

Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, presentations) in an area of expertise directly related to Tourism, Hospitality & Destination Management as part of his/her professional development. The successful candidate is also expected to provide service on committees for the department, college, and university and participate in instructionally related activities. Expectations also include service to local, state, national, tourism and/or destination management related professional organizations.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):


Required Qualifications:
A Doctorate degree in destination marketing, tourism marketing, experiential marketing, recreation, parks, and tourism administration, tourism and hospitality, or a related field is required. Applicants should have a combination of teaching, practical and/or research experience in the tourism and/or destination management industry.

Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, the tourism and destination management industry sector, government agencies, and the general public is essential. Must demonstrate commitment to diversity.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to initiate, complete, secure external funding, and publish research.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work experience with and expertise in destination marketing organizations, destination management companies, or tourism analytics organizations is highly preferred. Experience with online course development and online teaching preferred. The ability to collaborate on research with faculty across the College, University, and industry is desirable. Candidates who have international experience or the desire to cultivate international links, are preferred.
