Position Description:
ENGLISH - Full-time, academic year, tenure track Assistant Professor of English, College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, to begin September 7, 2017. Ph.D. in English or related field is required with specialization in one or more of the following areas: Asian-American, Chicano/a, Latino/a, and/or Indigenous American literatures.



The typical teaching assignment is 12 units per quarter (with course load reduction in each of the first two years to help establish one's professional development activities), with correspondingly reasonable service and research expectations. All tenured and tenure-track faculty teach courses in their areas of specialization at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Initial appointment is for two years, subject to renewal. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The College of Liberal Arts strongly values inclusion and diversity especially in the classroom and among its areas of study. This is one of seven searches in the College of Liberal Arts intended to increase curricular coverage of areas related to inclusivity and diversity, and successful candidates will be expected to contribute to strengthening the college's efforts in these areas. The other searches are for positions in Communication Studies, History, Psychology & Child Development, and Social Sciences. It is anticipated that a minimum of four hires will be made across these searches.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):


Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in English or related field with specialization in one or more of the following areas: Asian-American, Chicano/a, Latino/a, and/or Indigenous American literatures; experience and excellence in college-level teaching; and evidence of professional activity that keeps the candidate abreast of knowledge and developments within their professional field. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate is complete prior to the start of appointment.
