Position Description:
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF CIVIL ENGINEERING - The Civil and Environmental Engineering (CE/ENVE) Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of Construction Engineering with specialization in civil infrastructure, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and/or sustainable construction. The successful candidate will have specializations in one or more of the following areas: Building Information Modeling (BIM) and/or 4D modeling; sustainable/LEED construction and Best Management Practices (BMPs); earthwork/heavy civil construction practices; building infrastructure systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural, energy/power, and fire detection); construction/engineering integration; and/or innovative construction materials/methodologies. We expect the successful candidate to assume a lead role in creating a Construction Engineering curricular track option within our Civil and Environmental Engineering Curriculum in collaboration with the Construction Management Department. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is September 13, 2018.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (a) teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories related to Construction Engineering; (b) teaching support courses in the area of Structural Engineering; (c) supervising undergraduate and graduate-level research; (d) developing and maintaining externally-funded research programs; (e) collaborating with other faculty on research and professional development interests; (f) engaging in activities related to service in the form of student club advisement, curriculum development and shared governance.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):


Required Qualifications:
An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate was completed prior to the start of the appointment.

Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction, and exhibit potential for professional recognition via research and publication. The department seeks candidates who have an interdisciplinary mindset and who work well in a highly collaborative environment. Demonstrated ability in written and oral use of the English language is required. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in civil and/or construction engineering, supported by a record of scholarly publications (commensurate with time since degree).

Professional registration, LEED certification, PE licensure, and industry/consulting experience are highly desirable.

A commitment to innovation in undergraduate teaching and working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative setting is expected.
