Position Description:
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR OF NUTRITION AND TYPE 2 DIABETES. The Food Science and Nutrition Department, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking a full-time, academic year, tenure-track assistant/associate/full professor in Nutrition beginning September 2018. The candidate should have expertise in human nutrition with demonstrated experience in studying interactions between type 2 diabetes and diet, as it relates to physical activity and/or obesity and/or aging and/or genetics. The candidate is expected to promote innovative solutions to the diet-related health issues faced by our society.

The candidate must have strong interest in and commitment to teaching and working with students of different cultural backgrounds. Teaching responsibilities will be in undergraduate and graduate courses that include introductory nutrition, clinical nutrition, community nutrition, nutrition and aging, metabolism, research methods, and additional courses as needed by the department. Expertise in developing and teaching hybrid/distance courses is desirable. Expectation is to actively participate in the new Masters in Nutrition program.

Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, presentations)as part of his/her professional development. These scholarly activities should be focused on inclusion of undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate is expected to proactively develop collaborations that are intra- and inter-departmental as well as with other colleges and universities.The successful candidate is also expected to provide service on committees for the department, college, and university and participate in instructionally related activities. Expectations also include service to local, state, national, and other professional organizations.

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, but appointment at the Full Professor level may be possible for a highly experienced and qualified candidate.


Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):


Required Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in Nutrition or closely related field. Candidates must be committed to quality undergraduate education and be expected to develop and maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, government agencies, and the general public is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
RD/RDN desirable. University-level teaching experience desirable. Evidence of successful academic research, external funding and publication history is advantageous.

The ability to collaborate on research with faculty across the College, University, and industry is desirable. Candidates who have international experience or the desire to cultivate international links, are preferred.
