Required Qualifications:
*Earned doctorate in Science Education or related field by start of appointment
*Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience
*Three years of excellent K-12 teaching/supervision (or related) experience in K-12 schools working with English learners or students with special needs in the general classroom
*Strong knowledge of current research and best practices in the area of expertise
*Demonstrated potential or evidence of scholarship that would support tenure and promotion in the Department of Teacher Education (Lurie College of Education)
*Ability to employ a variety of teaching techniques and emerging technologies for instruction
*Ability to support and sustain collegial and collaborative relationships

Preferred Qualifications:
*Valid credential in secondary science teaching
*Minimal level of education in a field of science (at the bachelor's and/or master's level)
*Familiarity with the California credentialing process and Next Generation Science Standards
*Proficiency in teaching credential and graduate-level courses
*Proficiency in facilitating professional development seminars and workshops for inservice teachers *Bilingualism/biliteracy in one or more of the languages in the SJSU service area (e.g., Spanish) and English

Responsibilities:
*Address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in major/degree program, age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement
*Teach credential and graduate-level courses in the specialized area in both online and classroom environments as assigned
*Manage and support university supervisors in the Science Education Program (College of Science) who work with secondary teacher candidates and their mentors in a collaborative student teaching model
*Supervise student field experiences
*Mentor and advise graduate students on their master's-level project
*Participate in committees and advise for the Science Education Program
*Engage in science education or related research
*Obtain external grant funding for his or her research program and contribute to one's field of expertise
* Participate in local, state, national, and/or international efforts to improve and strengthen K-12 science education programs
* Implement national and California teacher credential program standards
* Actively engage in teaching, research, and professional service at the department, college, and university levels
* Cultivate and maintain partner relationships with area school districts
* Participate in program development, assessment, and review to address state and national standards

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Starting Date: August 21, 2017
