Anticipated Salary Range: $4,554/month - $4,800/month
Salary Range: $4,554/month - $6,488/month

About the Position

The Principal Advisor for Professional Development and Advising Campaigns will develop, implement, and assess university wide professional development for academic advisors. The position will provide support and coordination to the departments and colleges in implementing a university-wide advising communication strategy. The position will provide university-wide support, coordination, and assessment of advising campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications

- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree
- 5 years' experience as an undergraduate academic advisor
- Experience planning and conducting training sessions for colleagues
- Experience planning and/or managing programmatic strategies
- Experience with higher education academic policies and procedures.
- Experience collaborating across departments/units

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of Title V of the California State Education Code, California State University Executive Orders, San Jose State University and Equal Opportunity Program admissions policies and procedures.
- Ability to learn non-resident tuition policies including AB540; ability to acquire and apply knowledge of disability resources and admissions requirements.
- Working knowledge of technology and software applications such as: word processing, spreadsheet, database management, and communication tools. Ability to learn PeopleSoft.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate applications and transcripts and acquire knowledge of Transfer Admissions Agreements.
