Qualifications--
Required: Ph.D. in American Literature or related field of study by start of appointment. Training in any area of nineteenth-century American literatures. Especially of interest are candidates whose teaching experience or research areas include early ethnic American literatures, such as Native American literatures, early colonial literatures such as Caribbean or Latin American literatures, or closely related fields. Experience teaching undergraduate courses. Demonstrated commitment to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience. Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence and an emerging record of peer-reviewed scholarship related to the position.

Preferred: Training or interest in: Transatlantic literary traditions; eco-critical or environmental literatures; digital humanities/pedagogies; world literatures. Experience with project-based learning. Interest in the public humanities and/or arts administration.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of English and Comparative Literature, including, but not limited to: American literature, primarily colonial or nineteenth-century, a Transatlantic literary survey, and other General Education courses. Participate in service at department, college, and university level, including grading of graduate exams and serving on M.A. theses. Strong teaching, publication record, committee and other service to the department and university will be necessary components of tenure. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.

Salary Range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 17, 2018.
