Qualifications:

1. An earned doctorate in Adapted Physical Activity/Education or closely related field by start of appointment;
2. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate level adapted physical activity courses, supervise fieldwork in the schools and community, advise in the area of specialization, and teach general education and/or physical activity classes;
3. Demonstrated knowledge of California K-12 physical education content and APE program standards desirable;
4. Ability to work collegially to develop contemporary interdisciplinary research and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with special interest in physical activity and/or disability/physical activity;
5. Demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarly research;
6. General/adapted pedagogy background and experience in Kinesiology, including theoretical knowledge of the field;
7. Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Teach courses in the areas of Adapted Physical Activity/Education. Teaching assignment will include courses in the Inclusive Physical Activity in Communities (IPAC) specialization; May also include teaching general education, activity, and graduate coursework;
2. Supervise APA/E fieldwork experiences; Establish and maintain APA/E fieldwork sites/supervisors;
3. Support and grow the PETE/APE teacher education and IPAC programs;
4. Plan, implement, and report data to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) APE
professional preparation program provided in the undergraduate and open university curriculum; Maintain
appropriate CCTC accreditations as required;
5. Serve as APE coordinator for SJSU to the CCTC;
6. Commitment to liaising closely with the Timpany Center: http://www.sjsu.edu/timpany/
7. Apply knowledge and skills using an interdisciplinary approach to Kinesiology, especially with regard to
disability and physical activity;
8. Integrate and build bridges across the sub-disciplines within the Kinesiology Department and collaborate with other departments across the university;
9. Conduct scholarly research, develop grants, present professional papers, and publish in peer-reviewed
journals;
10. Serve on thesis and project committees at the graduate level, and advise students at the graduate and
undergraduate levels;
11. Serve on department, college, and university committees as appropriate;
12. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August 21, 2017
